Pakistan food exports increase by 17,92% in first 5 month
Production due to flash floods, the food group export registered an increase of 17.92 per cent during last five months of the current fiscal year.
The export of rice increased by 11.86 per cent during the period of July to November 2010 as compared to the same period of 2009. About 1,364,035 metric tons of the rice was exported from the country costing US$ 779.049 million during the period. According to the data available with Federal Bureau of Statistic, about 1,260,881 metric tons of the commodity was exported with a total cost of US$ 696.456 million.
Meanwhile, the export of Basmati rice increased by 10 per cent as about 403,113 metric tons of basmati rice worth of US$ 355.107 million was exported as during last five months of current financial year as compared to the total quantum of 376,717 metric tons, costing US$ 319,976 in the year 2009.
The export of other varieties of rice also registered an increase of 12.61 per cent during the first five months of current financial year the data revealed.
It said that about 960,922 metric tons of other varieties of rice were exported from the country during last five months which added an amount of US$ 423.094 million to the national forex reserves.
Meanwhile, about 884,164 metric tons of the commodity were exported during July to November 2009, contributing US$ 376.480 million to foreign exchange reserves, it added.
The export of fish and fish preparations also witnessed an increase of 34.30 per cent as about 50,512 metric tons of the commodity with a total cost of US$ 109.057 million were exported during the period under consideration. During the same period of last year, about 37,095 metric tons of fish and fish preparations were exported with a total cost of US$ 81.210, it added.
