Pakistan. Sindh produces one million tons of sugar in 2009-10 crushing season
Despite shortage of sugarcane crop in the country, the Sindh province has produced one million tons white refined sugar during the crushing season of 2009-10, it is reliably learnt. The sugar mills, which started crushing season on different times, have now stopped the crushing. During a comparatively short crushing season, sugars mills in Sindh produced one million tons of white refined sugar.
Sources in Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), Sindh, told Business Recorder that sugarcane crushing season ended in the first week of the ongoing month. All the sugar mills operated 50 percent below their production capacity, they added.
Sources said Mityari Sugar Mills, Tharparkar Sugar Mills and Degree Sugar Mills started crushing from October 31, while Degree Sugar Mills and Tharparkar Sugar Mills from October 27 and Mityari Sugar Mills started crushing from October 31. Ranipur Sugar Mills started sugarcane crushing from November 08, the sources said.
However, Mehran Sugar Mills, Sanghar Sugar Mills, Al-Noor Sugar Mills, Sindh Abadgar Sugar Mills, Habib Sugar Mills, Faran Sugar Mills, Ansari Sugar Mills, New Dadu Sugar Mills, Naudero Sugar Mills, Army Welfare Sugar Mills, Sakrand Sugar Mills, Shahmurad Sugar Mills, Dewan Sugar Mills, Sehri Sugar Mills, Al-Asif Sugar Mills, Tando Muhammad Khan Sugar Mills, Al-Abbas Sugar Mills, Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills, Al-Abbas Sugar Mills, Larr Sugar Mills, Ghotki Sugar Mills, Pangrio Sugar Mills, Mirza Sugar Mills, Bawany Sugar Mills, Najma Sugar Mills, and Dewan Sugar Mills, Badin started crushing on November 15, 2010.
Talking to Business Recorder, Abdul Wajid Chairman PSMA Sindh said the ex-factory price of the commodity varies from sugar mill to sugar mill due to variation in the cost of production. The millers have purchased sugarcane from Rs 230 to Rs 270 per maund and average price stood at Rs 240 per 40 kilo, he said. The average ex-mill price of the commodity remains Rs 59 per kilogram, he maintained.
