CBH lowers wheat, barley standards   Print  E-mail
Western Australia's grain handler has lowered its receival standards for wheat and barley because of recent rain damage to crops.

Co-operative Bulk Handling (CBH) says it has changed specifications on moisture tolerance, colour standard and germ end staining to ensure it gets the projected amount of milling quality grain for the harvest.

CBH's Mick Daw says the changes should allow growers to get more wheat and barley accepted as milling quality grain.

Mr Daw says early indications are that malt barley will still be down on previous years.

"We generally do get a lot more barley which goes malt than what has this year so far, but for us I suppose it's only early days as well, but early indications are that there will be a lot less that goes malt than what has in previous years," he said.
