$8 524.3 Ml of direct foreign investments came to Ukraine in January / September 2008. This amount included $7,093.7 Ml from the EU countries (83.2% of the total), $711.8 Ml from the CIS countries (8.4%), and $718.8 Ml from other countries of the world (8.4%). At the same time, non-residents withdrew capitals to the amount of $659.4 Ml, reports the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.

 

According to the State Statistics Committee, investments came from 124 countries of the world. The top ten investor countries, which account for 82% of the total volume of direct investments, include Cyprus ($8,534.0 Ml), Germany ($6,826.9 Ml), The Netherlands ($3,253.7 Ml), Austria ($2,564.9 Ml), the United Kingdom ($2,329.2 Ml), the Russian Federation ($2,097.4 Ml), the USA ($1,522.5 Ml), France ($1,266.1 Ml), Sweden ($1,260.3 Ml) and the British Virgin Islands ($1,248.7 Ml).

 

The total foreign capital in the country’s economy gained $8,079.4 Ml between January/September 2008, including its re-assessment, losses, exchange rate differences etc., i.e. 54.2% more than gained for this same time last year.

 

During the 9 months of 2008, the greatest increases were seen in capitals coming from Cyprus (+$2,587.6 Ml), Germany (+$908.6 Ml), The Netherlands (+$744.9 Ml), Italy (+$737.4 Ml), the Russian Federation (+$635.0 Ml) and Austria (+$497.5 Ml). Expanding investment inflows continue from the United Kingdom (the increase in capital was $353.7 Ml), Greece ($306.7 Ml), Sweden ($273.6 Ml), France ($221.3 Ml), the British Virgin Islands ($182.5 Ml) and Hungary ($121.3 Ml).

 

The overall direct foreign investments to Ukraine were at $37,621.5 Ml as of October 1, 2008, i.e. 27.3% more y/y, equaling $812.1 per capita.
