Agricultural producers will gather over 9 million tons of vegetables this year - Prysiazhniuk

Domestic agricultural producers will gather about 9.4 million tons of vegetables this year.

Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said about this, the press service of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry informs.

“This year, we will have a high yield of not only grain crops, but vegetables and fruits. It is forecasted that about 9.4 million tons of vegetables will be gathered. So, internal needs, which are no more than 7.3 million tons, will be fully provided. As concerns the price situation, it will be stable, since we are actively fighting with speculators on the fruit and vegetable products market,” the Minister noted.

He said that cabbage will be harvested at about 1.8 million tons this year, beets - 860,000 tons, carrots - 865,000 tons and onions - over 1 million tons.

Prysiazhniuk emphasized that the ministry is working over raising the number of storage facilities with modern storage technologies. “Without special storage facilities, it will be problematic to preserve high yields. So in order that work of agricultural producers was not in vain, who gather such great volumes of fruit and vegetable products, the government helps constructing storage facilities. In 2011-2012, under the auspices of the state, 104 vegetable storage facilities have been built. And in the nearest two years, another 16 storage facilities will appear in Ukraine with capacity reaching 140,000 tons,” the Minister added.
