First Major Corn Shipment Sent from Argentina to China

08.08.2013

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Office, Norberto Yauhar, reported that the first large shipment of Argentine corn, 60,000 tons, entered the Republic of China.

The cereal exceeded all health and biotechnological controls required by China.

Argentina sent two smaller shipments in December 2012 as a trial.

"For many years we were working to enter the Chinese market and today we have done it very good quality corn, opening a huge potential opportunity," said Mr Yauhar.

Argentina's entry into the Chinese market increases competition and allows China access to an alternative source of supply other than from United States and Ukraine.
