Forward grain trading to start in Corabia – Romania

The grain exchange in Corabia – Olt county, Romania, on the Danube, will start trading futures contracts on wheat as of this fall – Bursa daily announced. The floor will run as part of Bucharest Commodities Exchange. Forward contracts will be introduced as a first step before spot and futures.

The EU financing for Corabia trading floor covers however only the cost of the offices – while the building of the silos depends on a company to be set up – therefore the whole story is still uncertain. There are currently four companies in Corabia holding silos – but two of them are traders that are not interesting in developing the exchange. Local administration struggles to find a way to get the business started – but from the daily’s reporting one can hardly conclude who will invest the money in the silos.
