Grain production in Bulgaria on the brink of bankruptcy - expert

26.07.2013

“Purchase price for grain in Bulgaria is more than 30% lower this year,” said Petar Baychev, chriperson of the Hadzhi Dimitar Association of Agricultural Producers-Sliven.

In his words, there is also around 20% drop in the crop. This year the harvest started 10-15 days earlier. Experts say that starting the harvest 10 days earlier means 20% smaller crop. And this is exactly what happened. The difference in the price, however, is very serious – almost 30%,” Baychev commented.

In his words, the grain production sector in Bulgaria is on the brink of bankruptcy this year.

He added that the quality of the crop is good this year but the price is lower.
