Vietnam exports over 4.2 mln tons of rice in 1st 7 months


Vietnam exported about 633,000 tons of rice in July, earning 293 million US dollars, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on its website on Friday.

The figures raised the total rice exports in the first seven months to about 4.22 million tons, worth 1.88 billion dollars, which represented a drop of 11.3 percent in volume, and 13 percent in value year-on-year.

The average price of rice export in the first six months reached 443 US dollars per ton, down 6.7 percent year on year.

China maintained the biggest importer of Vietnamese rice during the reviewed period, accounting for 33.9 percent of the country's total rice export value.

Besides, demands for Vietnamese rice from Singapore, Angola and China's Hong Kong also increased, with a year-on-year rise of 37 percent, 30.6 percent and 22.7 percent respectively.

According to the Vietnam Food Association, the country expected to export 7.5 million tons of rice in 2013.
