New Study "Crushing Industry of Ukraine: Supply Crisis and Companies’ Strategies"

25.07.2013

The period after the financial crisis of 2008 was characterized by active investment in the oil and fat industry of Ukraine, as well as the continuation of mergers and acquisitions process. The leading players in this sector of the economy have changed with a redistribution of market shares among the new members.

More than half of Ukrainian fat and oil industry production capacity falls at the large industrial groups, whose share in total production is constantly increasing.

Results of UkrAgroConsult research “Crushing Industry of Ukraine: Supply Crisis and Companies’ Strategies” show a significant increase in investment into the oil extraction industry in 2001-2011, which, in turn, contributed to the increase of concentration in the oil and fat industry.

Almost 70% of sunflower processing volume in Ukraine falls at 13 major companies with a daily production capacity of more than one thousand tons. About 17.3% of processing falls at companies with a daily production capacity of 500-1000 tons.

Results of the study confirm the benefits of large-scale production in Ukrainian fat and oil industry  in terms of efficiency.

According to UkrAgroConsult forecasts, due to implementation of new projects, oil and fat industry in Ukraine has the potential to increase production capacity to 12.5 million tons in the near future.
