Argentina may reactivate railways that connect to Chile to export to Asia

As a mid-term solution for the transportion problems in the Northwest of Argentina, a railway would be reactivated connecting the province of Salta to the ports of Antofagasta and Mejillones, in Chile.

The train would be operated by the companies Belgrano Cargas (Argentina) and Ferronor (Chile) with an estimate of a reduction of freight costs to a third of the current prices. The trains now started to transport 500 tons per week and would make grains produced in Salta more competitive. The transport of grain would compete also with mining inputs.
