Australia Sells 50,000 Tons of Wheat to Iraq

European sources reported that the Iraqi Grains Board bought about 50.000 tons of Australian wheat in a tender closed last week.

According to available information, Iraq wanted to buy the wheat from the United States, Canada or Australia in tender which was closed on 7 May, 2017.

The US prices reached 267.17 dollars per ton , including shipping , but without unloading.

Iraq made many tenders for wheat during the last few months, but no announcement was made on the purchases.

On 9 May, 2017, the Iraqi  Cabinet authorized the trade ministry to "directly" buy rice and wheat to cover food security in the country.

Last March, it was reported that Iraq informed the rice and wheat suppliers that the future payment  shall be on installments, thus the number of the bidders was reduced.

No confirmation on the Iraqi side was announced.
