Baltic Dry Index decreased last week

Last week, Baltic Freight Index lost 38 points or 2.83% and reached 1303 points. Following the slight BDI increase after the Christmas holidays, the bulk carrier market was influenced by the decrease in demand for large-tonnage transportation. Capesize index provided the largest pressure on Baltic Dry Index, decreasing by more than 12%. Ship owners noted a decline in trading activity in Capesize shipping market in the Atlantic region, reports UkrAgroConsult.

In the first decade of January, optimism prevailed in the Panamax type transportation market. However, at the end of last week, Panamax Index decreased following the Capesize sector.
