Baltic Dry Index gained 81 points last week

Last week Baltic Dry Index gained 81 points and reached 1023 points. Positive trends in the sector of large-capacity transportation by Capesize type vessels provided the main support to the freight index, informs UkrAgroConsult.

Weekly growth of Capesize index by impressive 40.8% helped BDI overcome the 1000 point mark for the first time in 3 months. According to brokers, requests for the supply of iron ore from Brazil to China were coming increasingly frequently, which affected freight rates in the Atlantic region. Despite the market was sluggish, iron ore prices went up due to the increased demand from the PRC. The remaining components of BDI did not have a significant impact and remained almost the same as a week before.
