Belarus completed planting of early spring cereals

Planting of early cereals in Belarus is over, said deputy head of the Ag Ministry’s crop production department Vasiliy Yadlovsky on May 15 as cited by BELTA news agency.

According to him, farmers in Vitebsk region have also finished planting early spring cereals, despite wet soil constraints. “The cold weather in late April and early May slowed down planting and development of crops. It is still too early to speak of how the spring frost events will affect the harvest but we do not forecast yet a substantial harvest decrease because of low temperatures,” said V. Yadlovskiy.

E. Urban, deputy director-general of the Belarusian Land Farming Research Center, said farmers have already sown corn on 69% of its planned area. “To preserve high yields and get quality silage, we must finish corn planting in all the regions by May 25,” he pointed out.
