Belarus. Corn crop conditions and winter grains sowing

20.09.2016

This year agro meteorological conditions were favorable for formation of high corn crop in the major part of Belarus. Warm weather and sufficient soil moisture stocks were beneficial for vegetation mass increase, which progressed faster than last year. Though, in the South-Eastern part of Belarus, where rainfall deficit was observed during the long period, lack of soil moisture had negative influence on the corn plants. Accumulated effective temperatures were enough for grain filling in corn, sown in optimal terms.

According to the latest data, corn which is left to be harvested was at the wax – full ripeness stage.

Weather, forecasted for the second half of September, will be favorable for grain drying and provide good conditions for further corn harvesting.

According to Belarusian AgMin by September, 19 661.1 Th ha or 49.2% of the plan had been seeded. By the same date in 2015 634.2 Th ha had been sown (51.3%)

This year farmers plan to increase winter grains area by 8.8% - to 1345.1 Th ha.
