Belarus. Crop Conditions

Due to precipitation shortages, soil moisture content shrank in most of the country from May 21-31. Nevertheless, most plantings still had enough soil moisture available at the 50-cm and top soil layers.

In single fields across the east of Brest region, in some parts of Gomel region and in the north-west of Minsk region the soil contained small amounts of productive moisture. According to visual observations by individual weather stations, cereals condition deteriorated due to moisture shortages.

On June 1-10, rain will maintain adequate soil moisture content in most of Belarus that will contribute to higher crop yields. Frosts expected overnight pose a threat primarily to emerged buckwheat seedlings.
