Belarus. Crop development lags behind last year

01.06.2017

On average, the total of effective degree-days above +5°C accumulated since the start of the growing season ranges from 180°С in Vitebsk region to 280°С in Gomel region. These values are 80-110°С lower than at the same time last year. As a result, crop development lags behind last year, reports UkrAgroConsult.

In the south of Belarus, early-ripening cereals have begun heading, while the emergence of inflorescence is seen in alfalfa. The optimum time has come for clipping the first growth.

Visual assessments of the state of cereals are primarily good, being fair in some fields in Vitebsk region. Rainfalls replenished soil moisture content in Gomel region, where cereals had already been exposed to moisture shortages.
