Belarus. Lagged crop development

According to the latest observations, most of spring cereal plantings are at the heading stage, while spring wheat in the southern half of the country has begun flowering. Grain filling has started in early-sown barley across Brest and Gomel regions. Ear-bearing tillers number 450-750 per sq. m. Experts expect spring barley in the south-western half of Belarus to enter the waxy ripeness stage primarily between July 10-20, even toward July 10 on light soils.

Grain formation is under way in winter cereals across most of the country, even grain filling mainly in the southern half of Belarus – these crops are already milky ripe. The visual assessments of grain crop condition are mostly good, being satisfactory in some parts of Vitebsk and Gomel regions.

Recent rainfalls replenished soil moisture content in much of Belarus and improved the conditions for heading in cereal plants and for already started ear filling. Soil moisture shortages may persist in some south-eastern areas, reports UkrAgroConsult.
