Belarus. Pace of corn harvesting is 14% behind last year

Active growth of winter crops has ended in most of Belarus due to a cold-spell. At the same time, the total of effective air temperatures above +5°С accumulated thus far in October is higher than   in the same period a year ago. Winter cereals planted prior to mid-September have already tillered. This is the optimum stage for wintering. Crops of later planting dates (latter half of September and early October) are primarily at the stages of emergence and three leaves.

Belarusian farmers continue harvesting corn for grain. Its harvest for silage is close to an end.  Fieldwork is complicated by heavy precipitation occurrences, reports UkrAgroConsult.

According to current information of the Ag Ministry, corn was harvested from 83.7 Th ha by October 30 (64.7% of the plan). Its crop amounted to 672.7 KMT with an average yield of 8.04 MT/ha. The harvest lags far behind last year.

At the same time in 2016, corn was harvested from 97.8 Th ha (76.7%) with a crop of 814.4 KMT and an average yield of 8.33 MT/ha.
