Belarus. Planting of spring cereals runs 28% ahead of last year


According to the Ag Ministry of Belarus, early spring cereals and pulses were planted on an area of 659.5 Th ha as of April 12, 2017. This is 70.3% of the projected 937.9 Th ha. Owing to the early arrival of spring, this year’s spring planting runs almost 28% ahead of 2016. By the same date last year, Belarusian farmers already sowed 515.8 Th ha of spring cereals (54.6% of the plan), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Fertilization of winter crops in the country also started ahead of the long-term average date. Overall, 762.8 Th ha has been fertilized in Belarus (81.3% of their total planted acreage).

As a reminder, according to the Ag Ministry’s plan, farming companies will sow spring crops on 2.441 Ml ha in 2017. Early spring grains will occupy 937.9 Th ha this year (944.7 Th ha was seeded in 2016), including 349.2 Th ha of pulses.

It is projected to sow corn on 116.2 Th ha, buckwheat on 15.1 Th ha and millet on 7.1 Th ha.
