Belarus. Post-winter crop condition greatly depends on weather developments in early spring

In most of Belarus, the crop thinness rate as of late February was somewhat too high, being significant in wheat and triticale plantings. In the northeastern half of the country, winter crops were weakened by long stay of snow cover on slightly frozen soil; rotting-out of plants is observed in some fields.

In case of sluggish spring growth processes, rotting may expand to a larger expanse of winter crops, even snow mold may progress on weakened plants. Snow in the southwestern half of Belarus is gone, but it still remains in most parts of the northeastern half of the country.

In Belarus (Brest region), spring fieldwork began two weeks earlier than last year. In case of favorable weather conditions, farmers in that region intend to begin sowing early spring grains in the middle of March, reports UkrAgroConsult.
