Belarus. Snow cover protecting winter crops against stronger frost

Winter crops pass the latter half of January in the conditions of the winter weather pattern. The soil has frozen to a 20-30 cm depth in most of Belarus, locally to 34-52 cm in the west. The depth of soil freezing is only less than 14-18 cm in some north-eastern and eastern parts of the country and in isolated areas across Minsk and Brest regions.

Snow cover protects winter crops against stronger frost. The air temperature drop in mid-January, when snow cover was actually absent, posed no threat to winter cereals, reports UkrAgroConsult.
