Belarus. Snow will protect winter crops against low temperatures

The weather conditions are fair at the onset of winter crops’ dormancy. Most of fields in the country are covered with 5 -12 cm of snow.

The soil is not frozen deeply yet, mostly to 1-8 cm; this depth reaches 10-13 cm just in some areas of Belarus. Soil temperatures at the tillering node of winter cereals and the root neck of perennial grasses are mostly within -1 to +1°C. Only individual weather stations reported them, falling to -2 -3°C.

Snow cover will build up gradually in the near future, keeping the soil from freezing, and the snow will protect winter crops against low temperatures, reports UkrAgroConsult.
