Belarus. Start of fieldwork is delayed

The cold snap in the latter half of March is not to damage winter crops. In the north-eastern half of the country, where air temperatures hit the lowest points, the fields are still covered with snow. Soil temperatures at the tillering node depth did not fall to a dangerous level, reports UkrAgroConsult.

At the same time, plants in the heavily snowed east of Belarus spend nutrients at a faster pace and thereby weaken. In the south-east of the country and in eastern parts of Brest region the frozen soil layer stays largely within 6-14 cm.

The cold weather that has set in across Belarus leads to a delay in the start of fieldwork. The spring processes are expected to somewhat speed up on March 26-31.
