Belarus. Weather conditions are fair for winter crops

A temperature decrease late in the week posed no threat to winter crops in Belarus. In general, the weather conditions are still satisfactory for survival of crop plants, reports UkrAgroConsult.

A thaw that set in on December 9-10 led to melting of snow cover. So, the southwest of the country and the western half of Gomel region are snow-free.

The depth of frozen soil in most of Belarus varies from 5-10 cm to 15-20 cm, only reaching 24-34 cm in some northwestern and northeastern areas. Soil temperature at the depth of winter cereals’ tillering node and perennial grasses’ root neck is somewhat above optimal values.
