Belarus. Weather conditions favoring corn development

Moisture supply for crops improved on July 1-10 following heavy rains.

Good supply of productive soil moisture is available to grain crops in most of the country. It is only the westernmost areas where soil moisture content is fair.

Adequate moisture supply will have a beneficial effect at the final stage of grain yield formation: grain filling will take more time in areas where ripening has not started yet (this concerns primarily spring crops). Moderately warm weather combined with sufficient moisture is favorable for corn.

Expected rains will keep crops well provided with moisture in most areas towards July 20. However, waterlogged areas may expand on heavy soils. In such fields, crops are more susceptible to lodging and are exposed to more intensive weed growth and disease development.

Rainfalls that are to occur in the coming days will complicate harvesting of winter rapeseed and grains.
