Belarus. Winter crops continue weak growth

November’s weather has been fair for winter crops. They continued weak growth due to too high air temperatures for this time of season. This fall, winter cereals have tillered on a larger area than a year ago. Winter cereals are in good condition in most fields. They are less developed in Vitebsk region.

Late in the fall, winter crops pass an important phase of preparation for dormancy, when they undergo complex physiological processes determining the plant hardening degree, reports UkrAgroConsult.

This year’s fall conditions are not the best for hardening of winter crops as the country is dominated by dull weather and the soil is too wet. Precipitation in many parts of Belarus has amounted to 1.5-2 times normal.

According to current information of the Ag Ministry, corn was harvested from 123.9 Th ha by November 27 (97.5% of the planned 127 Th ha). Its crop amounted to 953 KMT with an average yield of 7.7 MT/ha.

At the same time in 2016, corn was harvested from 120.6 Th ha (100.3%) with a crop of 982.1 KMT and an average yield of 8.14 MT/ha.
