The struggle of the EU against highly pathogenic avian influenza virus continues. This time the disease is detected in Belgium for the first time in 7 years

The outbreak was discovered on a farm in the province Löbbecke, 30 kilometers from the border with the Netherlands, where it was destroyed about 200 000 birds as part of measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The bird flu virus was infected geese, ducks, Guinea fowl and pheasants, bred to an affected farm. In total, the disease affected 55 birds that were destroyed.

This is the first reported outbreak of avian influenza in the country, but 11 European countries regularly informed of new outbreaks of disease during the last 4 months.
