Black Sea Grain-2018: Indian Agribusiness Specialist to cover the main trends in grain & oilseeds markets of Asia

G. Chandrashekhar, Global Agribusiness Specialist, India, will cover the main trends in demand and consumption of Grains and Oilseeds in the Asian markets at the XV International Conference “Black Sea Grain: Moving Up the Value Chain”.

Asian countries became the top buyers of Ukrainian wheat in MY 2017/18 owing to increased supplies to Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia. This region absorbed more than 29% of Ukrainian wheat exports in July-January 2017/18 (3.53 MMT). The share of South Asia – last season’s top destination (roughly 26.5% in MY 2016/17) – has plummeted to 16% (1.89 MMT) this marketing year because of lower shipments to India.

Ukrainian exporters supplied roughly 12.17 MMT of wheat to foreign markets during the first seven months of the current season versus 12.72 MMT in July-January 2016/17 (down 4% year-on-year).

As for the oilseed sector, India remains the main buyer of sunflower oil from Ukraine in the current season with a share of 45%.
