Black Sea region enhancing its role in the pea market

31.05.2018

The current 2017/18 season is drawing to an end with new achievements of the Black Sea region in the pulses market.

Traditionally, the main pulse crop in Ukraine and Russia is peas, which now account for 75-85% of total pulse production in these countries.

As it is known, both Ukraine and Russia harvested bumper pea crops in 2017.

Moreover, despite intensifying competition among pea exporters in the world market, both Ukraine and Russia managed to step up pea exports considerably.

Ukraine exported all-time high volume of peas during the first ten months of the 2017/18 season. This is already up 50% from the whole of MY 2016/17, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Regarding the outlook for the upcoming 2018/19 season, all indications are that the Black Sea region will continue increasing its role in the world pea market.
