Brazil Soybean Planting Progress Jumps to 43%

08.11.2017

Planting of Brazilian soybeans jumped to 43% of the estimated area since November 2, which is an increase of 13 percentage points compared with 30% in the previous week.

According to survey AgRural, rainfall in the center-west region of Brazil allowed planting to get completed faster.

However, the Brazilian crop is still considered late. Sowing registered in the same period last year was 53%, and the five-year average is 44%.

"There are still areas that need more humidity in the Midwest, especially in Goiás (state in the Midwest), but new rainfall is forecast in the next few days," AgRural said in a statement.

Plantation by State

The state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the fifth-largest soybean producer, now leads the fieldwork. Planting jumped 20 percentage points last week and reached 78% of the planted area, up from last year.

The largest soybean producer, Mato Grosso, still continues to register a delay. "In Mato Grosso, planting jumped from 43% to 61% in one week, but is behind 81% of the previous crop and slightly below 62% of the average of five years," says AgRural.

In the south of Brazil, planting is going well. Paraná, the second-largest soy producer, planted 74% of the area. Planting was 72% in the last season and 65% in the average of five years.

Rain Forecast

According to Climatempo, the weather forecast indicates rainfall in all production areas in the states of Mato Grosso, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Goiás, among others.

Climatempo forecasts the arrival of a cold front on Friday (November 10) in southern Brazil, which will advance to the southeast and center-west regions. The weather forecast indicates favorable conditions to raise soil moisture and allow a rapid advance of soybean planting.
