Bulgaria and Romania. Harvesting started earlier than last year

BULGARIA. Bulgarian farmers started barley harvesting earlier than last year, reports UkrAgroConsult.

According to current information of the Ag Ministry of Bulgaria, barley had been harvested from 1.0 Th ha (0.9%) by June 7. Farmers got 4.8 KMT of grain with an average yield of 4.7 MT/ha.  

Planting of cereals was still in progress as of the reporting date.

ROMANIA. Increased air temperatures continue dominating the entire country; they were 4-6°С above multi-year normal values this past week. The average air temperature varied within a range of +15..+27°С. On June 13, the mercury reached +35°C on the Bulgarian border.

Precipitation events occurred everywhere in the central and western regions (30-60 mm over the week). Some south-western areas received roughly 100 mm. at the same time, moderate and severe soil drought (0-100 cm layer) persists in the north-east and south-east of the country, continuing to reduce yield potential of winter and spring crops. Precipitation rates totaled 2-15 mm there.

On June 10, farmers in 15 region of Romania started mass harvesting of winter barley. They have begun winter rapeseed harvesting as well, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Corn plants already have 9-18 leaves everywhere; they have already entered the stage of cob formation. Sunflower is at the head formation stage, even at flowering in the south.
