Bulgaria continues stepping up sunseed production


According to the final estimate made by the Ag Ministry of Bulgaria, farmers sowed sunflower on 820 Th ha in MY 2016/17 and harvested 1838 KMT from 818 Th ha.

Thus, Bulgaria managed to get 7.5% more sunseed than last season in view of expanded sowings and harvest areas along with a nearly record yield.

Domestic sunseed crushing continued following an upward trend in the current 2016/17 season – UkrAgroConsult has mentioned this before, along with decrease in sunseed exports.

Concerning the prospects of 2017/18 season, UkrAgroConsult supposes that the factor of highly remunerable sunseed production is expected to nonetheless play its role in 2017/18 season and sunflower plantings will be expanded to 840 Th ha. Sunseed crop will also rise.
