Bulgaria shifting the sunseed use priority to crushing

25.01.2017

Bulgarian growers managed to get 1701 KMT of sunseed in 2016/17 season, down less than 0.5% from last year’s harvest, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Continuing the 2015/16 trend, domestic sunseed crushing is expected to further increase this marketing year. Its volume is predicted to reach at least 800 KMT, or 42% of total supply against 39% a year ago.

As for 2017/18 season prospects, taking into consideration trends and forecasts with regard to other Black Sea countries, it can be claimed that the interest in sunseed growing remains strong, Svetlana Kupreeva, oilseed analyst of UkrAgroConsult, notes. Consequently, sunflower planted areas will be at least as large as in the current marketing year of 2016/17.
