Bulgarian grain producer: In some places crop yield has fallen by 50 to 70% due to the hailstorms

In some places in Bulgaria crop yield has fallen by 50 to 70% due to the hailstorms, said the Chairman of the Thracian Union of Grain Producers, Tsvetan Derberov, in an interview with Focus News Agency, commenting on the impact of weather on agricultural crops.

“Poor weather conditions have a very negative impact, the instability of weather affects both crop quality and quantity. In the region of Stara Zagora more than 1,000 hectares have been affected. In Karnobat and Kamenovo, there is almost no farmer who hasn’t been affected, over 70% of the yield is damaged.

In these areas, rapeseed has been most affected, followed by wheat. The maize is also completely defoliated from the strong hailstorms,” said Derberov.
