Bulgarians disappointed with sunflower seed production


By the end of September Bulgarian farmers had harvested most of oil crops and, therefore, we can speak about prospects and potential of the new 2016/17 crop.

As UkrAgroConsult informed earlier, sunflower acreage in Bulgaria was reduced for the third consecutive season. For the 2016 crop sunflower acreage reached 800 Th ha compared to 815 Th ha last season. Our initial sunflower seed production estimate was quite optimistic.

However, in summer sunflower plantings faced a long-lasting drought, some plants started fading. August rains were not able to improve the situation, as some sunflower varieties finished vegetation period earlier due to hot and dry weather conditions. That’s why sunflower harvesting area decreased considerably.
