Bulog to import 31,000 tonnes of buffalo meat in 2018

Indonesia’s State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has applied for recommendation to the central government to import 31,000 tonnes of buffalo meat. This is to meet demand in 2018, especially during the Muslim religious festivals of Ramadhan and Ied Fitr (May-June 2018).

Tri Wahyudi Saleh, Bulog’s Commercial Director, said currently the agency still has around 21,000 tonnes of buffalo meat as the stock for January and February. “On average we sell about 5000-6000 tonnes per month,” he said. Bulog is the only agency tasked by the central government for buffalo meat imports from India. This meat is aimed at stabilising the high price of beef in local markets.
