Cambodia opens new food security lab

The Cambodia Import-Export Inspection and Fraud Repression Directorate General (Camcontrol) has opened a laboratory in Preah Sihanouk province to monitor food safety. Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak said: “The new mini-lab will make us more efficient when it comes to analysing market food and protect the health of the consumer.”

Camcontrol officers will confiscate poor quality products and ban those that are illegally brought into the country, without having to send them first to Phnom Penh for analysis. Camcontrol has opened two other laboratories in Svay Rieng and Banteay Meanchey. Three more labs are being built in Kampong Cham, Prey Veng and Takeo and these labs will be opened next year.
