CBOT corn prices strengthened by 3% supported by data on US sowing intentions

During March 22-29, CBOT corn prices strengthened by 3.1%. In the spot market, the US and Argentinean corn prices increased USD 4/MT FOB and USD 188/MT, respectively (April delivery), reports UkrAgroConsult.

The growth was triggered by publication of the report on sowing intentions in the USA for the 2018 crop, as well as by the information on persisting shortage of rains in Argentina, which were not expected in the next 2 weeks.

The USDA estimate of corn planted area in the USA (88 million acres) was below market expectations - 89.48 million acres – and below the previous estimate of 90 million acres (90.1 million acres in 2017), which provoked CBOT price growth.
