Chickpea exports from Ukraine exceeded last season’s level


Ukrainian chickpea exports totaled 5.62 KMT in the first four months of MY 2017/18, or already 15% more than for the whole last season. The rise in chickpea exports from Ukraine is caused by a 55% increase in its pulse plantings for the 2017 harvest and correspondingly expanded production, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Like last season, the key end market for Ukrainian chickpeas is Egypt. This marketing year the country has already purchased 46% more chickpeas from Ukraine than for the whole last season.

Turkey has substantially boosted chickpea imports from Ukraine this season. Also, Ukraine stepped up chickpea exports to some other destinations, including Libya, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Pakistan and the European Union. In addition, Ukrainian chickpea exporters opened the markets of Algeria and Singapore.
