China contributed to a record in Kazakh sunflower meal exports

10.05.2018

Owing to China’s active demand not only for sunseed but also for sunseed products, sunflower meal exports hit a record high, reports UkrAgroConsult.

So, 30.5 KMT was exported during the first seven months of the current 2017/18 season that is already more than for the whole of last season (29.5 KMT).

Sunflower meal exports from Kazakhstan totaled 6.2 KMT in March 2018 versus 4.4 KMT a month ago and 3.4 KMT in March 2017.

Assessing this season’s trends, UkrAgroConsult predicts Kazakh sunflower meal export shipments to total at least 50 KMT.

The end market for Kazakh sunflower meal remains very narrow, numbering just four countries this season. However, the importing countries share it almost equally, occupying 23% to 28% each. At the same time, the traditional leader – Uzbekistan – was stripped of its leadership by countries such as China, Tajikistan, and Iran. China, which made the first purchases from Kazakhstan as late as October 2017, confidently holds a 28% export share.

UkrAgroConsult notes that China remains the main buyer for a number of Kazakh oilseeds and oilseed products such as soybean, sunseed, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil and linseed oil. Moreover, Kazakhstan intends to start exports of rapeseed meal and alfalfa after getting the access to the Chinese market.

Noteworthy, Kazakhstan and China have agreed to hold a joint inspection of corn and barley growing farms in June 2018.
