China sanctions US broiler chicken imports

China has removed anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on US broiler chickens. The move, which took effect on Tuesday, came after a World Trade Organisation ruling in January that obliged Beijing to lower the tariffs unless it appealed within 20 days, reported Reuters.

The tariffs were first imposed in 2010 and extended for a further five years in 2016. The move however, is largely inconsequential for the American poultry industry, as China’s 2015 ban on imports of US poultry, poultry products and eggs due to avian influenza remains in place, said Sarah Li, Director for Greater China at the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council in Hong Kong.
