China takes ‘provisional’ measures on Brazilian meat imports

China is concerned about the quality issue surrounding meat products from Brazil, said China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “After confirming with relevant departments, we have learnt that the competent authorities in China have taken preventive and provisional measures of protection to ensure the safety of Chinese consumers,” spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a press conference.

A staff with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), China’s product quality watchdog, told Asian Agribiz that they have received an internal instruction to stop inspection of Brazilian meat products from March 19, and those imports newly completing inspection should be kept at the ports.
