Corn exports from Ukraine keep rising


Ukraine shipped abroad over 8 MMT of corn during the first four months in MY 2018/19. This is a five-year high and up 80.3% from the same period in MY 2017/18, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Ukrainian exporters shipped to foreign markets 3.3 MMT of corn in December 2018/19, or 4.4% more than in the previous month and up 45.3% from December 2017.

As before, the top consumer of Ukrainian corn this season is the European Union, with its export share nearing 74%. This volume became almost three times as much as a year earlier.

Supplies to China, the second largest market for Ukrainian corn, increased by 13% in September-December 2018/19.  

Noteworthy is that African countries absorb 8.8% of total corn exports from Ukraine. At the same time, the largest importer in Africa is Egypt, which reduced purchases by 4% at the time.
