Corn planting started in Romania


Increased air temperatures (4-6°С above long-term normal) set in all over the country last week. The average air temperature varied within a range of +7..+18°С. Air temperature on the Bulgaria border reached +25°С.

Precipitation occurred mostly in the western part of the country (10-15 mm). Snow is gone almost everywhere. Moisture supply is optimal and satisfactory in all of the country’s farming regions – this is favorable for crop growth. Occasional fields in the south-west are flooded.

The average daytime temperature of the topsoil (5 cm) grew to +7..+17°С. This favored planting of spring crops as well as the start of corn planting, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Winter wheat and barley are at the tillering stage and winter rape plants continue building up their leaf apparatus. The condition of winter crops is rated good and fair.
