Demand for tonnage remained high in grain shipping sector

Strong demand for US corn due to decreased supply from Brazil is observed in the segment of grain cargoes. The demand for US soybeans is also high. Continuing strike of trucking companies in Argentina has not led to significant disruptions of export supplies.

Nevertheless, currently the situation with supply and demand of dry-cargo tonnage looks quite balanced in the Atlantic basin. The  number of new offers for grain shipment from South America with delivery in July - August is sufficient to provide with work vessels which move in ballast from Southeast Asia and Indian oceans.

However, lack of tonnage was observed on the spot market last week, which resulted in increased premium. In such circumstances, charterers have to accept terms of ship-owners.
