Egypt actively purchasing Ukrainian wheat

According to preliminary information of market participants, Ukraine exported 2.4 MMT of wheat in August 2017/18, or 21% less than at the same time last marketing year. Nevertheless, the current pace of Ukrainian wheat exports is the fastest except for last year’s record, reports UkrAgroConsult.

At the time, the key end market for Ukrainian wheat was Egypt. Remarkably, shipments to this country in the first months of the current season were up 39% year-on-year. Ukraine exported 465.5 KMT of wheat to the Egyptian market in July-August 2017/18 against 335.8 KMT at the same time last season.

Apart from Egypt, stable high demand for Ukrainian wheat is also shown by Asian countries (Indonesia, South Korea and Bangladesh) and the European Union. In addition, Ukraine supplied over 130 KMT of wheat to India in the reporting period.

As a reminder, UkrAgroConsult estimates Ukraine’s wheat export potential in the 2017/18 season by 1MMT lower compared to record exports in 2016/17.
