Egypt introduced new rules for importing strategic agricultural products

The government resolution No. 2992 “On import of some strategic agricultural products” came into force in Egypt on July 1, 2017. The resolution establishes a list of agricultural products strategically important to the nation, as well as rules for their delivery. This was reported by the press service of Ukraine’s Consumer Protection Service on July 20. “The document’s definition for the “strategic products” includes wheat, corn and soybeans,” the report specifies.

According to the new rules, the above-mentioned products can only be supplied to the country with the permission of Egypt's General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC). At the same time, this requirement is not applied to “competent authorities authorized to import the above-mentioned products.” Also, the GOEIC was appointed the only body authorized to examine strategic agricultural products imported in line with Egypt’s standards.

Noteworthy, Ukrainian soybean exports to Egypt totaled 562.5 KMT in the current 2016/17 season (September-June), or 5.8% more than at the same time last season.
