Egypt issued another wheat tender

Today September, 16 GASC issued another milling wheat tender with shipment during October 15-25, 2016. This is the second tender issued by GASC after the introduction of zero tolerance ergot content in the imported wheat. Last tender, announced on August, 30 was cancelled. At the last held tender – on August, 26 Egypt bought 180 KMT of Russian wheat to be shipped during September 26 - October 5, 2016. The price of purchase was $185.52 / MT C&F.

UkrAgroConsult notes, that late in August GASC published the list of countries, which supply wheat with ergot traces. Almost all the traditional wheat suppliers were included to this list, except for Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania. Afterwards, Russia and Ukraine were added as well, which left no chances for Egypt to buy wheat elsewhere.

Russian exporters` reaction was quite strict – not a single wheat cargo has been shipped to Egypt since the start of September. Romanian trader asked to return USD 500,000 of the guarantee payment as it was not able to supply ergot free wheat. Ukraine has shipped 40 KMT since the start of September and is preparing another 60 KMT of wheat for shipment. So, it is likely that this time only Ukrainian wheat will be offered at the tender.
